Protein phosphorylation as a control for excitation energy transfer in Rhodospirillum rubrum
نویسندگان
چکیده
Changes in cooperativity of the light-harvesting system of Rhodospirilhun rubrum were monitored in whole cells by measurements of in vivo bacteriochlorophyll fluorescence yield transients. Under non-cooperative conditions a polypeptide of 10.5 kDa (provisionally identified as BSSO-j?) was specifically phosphorylated; under cooperative conditions a polypeptide of 13 kDa (provisionally identified as B880-a) was specifically phosphorylated. These results are discussed in relation to the regulation of excitation energy distribution in purple photosynthetic bacteria and other photosynthetic organisms.

Direct observation of sub-picosecond equilibration of excitation energy in the light-harvesting antenna of Rhodospirillum rubrum.
Excitation energy transfer in the light-harvesting antenna of Rhodospirillum rubrum was studied at room temperature using sub-picosecond transient absorption measurements. Upon excitation of Rs. rubrum membranes with a 200 fs, 600 nm laser flash in the Qx transition of the bacteriochlorophyll-a (BChl-a) absorption, the induced transient absorption changes in the Qy region were monitored. In Rs....
متن کاملThree pulse echo peak shift measurements on the B820 subunit of LH1 of Rhodospirillum rubrum
Ž . Three pulse photon echo peak shift measurements 3PEPS of the detergent isolated B820 subunit of the light harvesting complex of Rhodospirillum rubrum are presented and compared with 3PEPS data for the LH1 complex of Rhodobacter sphaeroides. The comparison suggests that the 90 fs component of LH1 3PEPS is indeed the energy transfer component. The striking similarity between 3PEPS of LH1 and ...
متن کاملStrategies to enhance the excitation energy-transfer efficiency in a light-harvesting system using the intra-molecular charge transfer character of carotenoids.
Fucoxanthin is a carotenoid that is mainly found in light-harvesting complexes from brown algae and diatoms. Due to the presence of a carbonyl group attached to polyene chains in polar environments, excitation produces an excited intra-molecular charge transfer. This intra-molecular charge transfer state plays a key role in the highly efficient (∼95%) energy-transfer from fucoxanthin to chlorop...

Bacteriochlorophyll a with Ni replacing the central Mg ion was used as an ultrafast excitation energy dissipation center in reconstituted bacterial LH1 complexes. B870, a carotenoid-less LH1 complex, and B880, an LH1 complex containing spheroidene, were obtained via reconstitution from the subunits isolated from chromatophores of Rhodospirillum rubrum. Ni-substituted bacteriochlorophyll a added...
متن کاملLow-intensity pump-probe measurements on the B800 band of Rhodospirillum molischianum.
We have measured low-intensity, polarized one-color pump-probe traces in the B800 band of the light-harvesting complex LH2 of Rhodospirillum molischianum at 77 K. The excitation/detection wavelength was tuned through the B800 band. A single-wavelength and a global target analysis of the data were performed with a model that accounts for excitation energy transfer among the B800 molecules and fr...
